Opera Unlimited seeks to promote appreciation and understanding of music, especially opera, by introducing it to school-aged children throughout New Mexico. Upon request, we present professional opera performances to elementary schools and libraries across the state.
In 1990 a group of professional educators, musicians, and theatrical performers founded Opera Unlimited in the mutual concern that children were lacking more and more in an acquaintance with opera. Unique in our approach, Opera Unlimited is the only non-profit performance company dedicated to the children of the New Mexico.
Each year we operate an outreach program which is available throughout New Mexico. This program offers operas specifically designed to fit into the schedule of the schools and libraries we visit while remaining fun and exciting for the children with a question and answer period if time allows after the performance. Opera Unlimited has performed to over 50 schools and libraries, and 22,000 children annually. Presently we are touring Jack and the Beanstalk, Aesop's Fables, and Three Billy Goats Gruff. For more information or to schedule a performance please contact our Outreach Performance Coordinator Warren Wilgus at (505) 219-1998 or operaunlimitednm@gmail.com.
Opera Unlimited has conducted a summer camp since 2002 that educated children in the many aspects of music and theater by producing an operetta presented to the public at the end of camp.
Our 2025 camp will feature culminating performances of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers. For further information about the 2025 Summer Opera Day Camp, please contact Cy Hoffman at choffman9@comcast.net or go to 2025 Summer Opera Day Camp Information.
